Private collection of glassware

The Glass Gallery is a unique place among the numerous attractions in Karpacz. Several thousand glass products from all over the world have been gathered in one place. The owner of the collection, Ms. Dorota Dedo, for several years expanded her knowledge and glass collection, which she acquired in many different ways, saving many of them from destruction. Part of the collection is exchanged with other collectors, most have been found at flea markets, or on the Internet, and some items have been donated. Over time, the collection grew so enormous that it was difficult to keep it locked up.

Currently, Ms. Dorota invites everyone to her apartment, where you can admire glassware free of charge. At the entrance, it is worth paying attention to the fence, filled with glass pieces partly from the former Józefina glassworks and those extracted from the Kamienna stream. The gallery is also known for its unique collection of uranium and crystal glass.

The glass industry developed for many centuries in the Karkonosze and throughout Śląsk. The art of smelting glass, giving unique shapes, colors and decorating techniques has been perfected. The glassworks and their owners were known all over the world. Szklarska Poręba is known for its wonderful glass-making history and glassworks that made the city famous throughout Europe and the world. Currently, only the name of the city and a small Leśna Huta Szkła have remained, cultivating the old traditions.

Today, the products of the glassworks can be seen in museums and private collections. The number of the products is rapidly declining. Unfortunately, they are underestimated by young generations and most often they end up in landfills as obsolete products. The main idea of the Glass Gallery in Karpacz is to save the old glass art from oblivion and to show the beauty hidden in glass products, designed by outstanding artists.
