Karpatka

Karpatka

A two-hour trail. Close to the centre of the town through the peaceful woodland area. Make sure you have something to drink. Nordic walking sticks may be useful. Not accessible for a person in wheelchair.

Park next to Konstytucji 3 Maja Street, slightly above the health centre up on the right side of the street is our starting point. It is good to make acquaintance with the Mountain Ghost - Karkonosz. Take a look at the figures of animals located in the park. At the entrance of the park you can see a wooden, carved gate which is a replica of gate which stood here before the Second World War. Go through the park to the Dam on Łomnica River. This a true mountain river which begins in Mały Staw next to the mountain hut Samotnia in the Giant Mountains. Walk along the crest of the dam to the other side. The red trail starts here. Turn left into to forest and follow the path. It will lead you along the slope of Karpatka Mountain covered with spruces, pines and beeches. During your journey you will often-times pass granite rocks. Remember to look for the blue trail which turns left. Subsequently, you will have to climb quite a steep path to the top of Karpatka. At the top of the Karpatka Mountain you can observe granite rock formations, among which we can find spherical hollows formed as a result of uneven weathering of rocks. The panorama from the vantage point is also extremely picturesque. The information board located there depicts not only the history of the mountain but also the names of the peaks that one could see in front of them. You can go back by following the green trail, to Pulmonology and Allergy Centre Zarzecze by the Myśliwska Street or come back to the dam, following the blue trail.
