RAVEN ROCKS (KRUCZE SKAŁY)

A picturesque group of rocks and climbing centre on the Rocky Housing Estate (Osiedle Skalne).

Raven Rocks is a granite and gneiss outcrop in a form of pillars reaching the height of 25 meters. They are located on the slopes of the Krucza Kopa Mountain in the Valley of Płomnica River.  They contain numerous clusters of pegmatites with crystals of precious minerals: corundums, sapphires and tourmalines. The most precious specimens are in the Geology Museum in Wrocław.

According to the legends the oldest adits on Raven Rocks were created in middle ages by prospectors of gold and precious stones. The memorial stone placed at the foot of rocks informs about these events.

In 18th century Gottfried Exner was believed to open two mines of kaolin clay which operated to meet the needs of the manufactories in Berlin.  It was said that the owner of the mine earned 20 francs in gold per tonne of clay used for porcelain production. As a result of this mining activity there are niches in one of the pillars.

At present, the climbing centre covering several dozen of routes with different difficulty is located.

The peak of one of the pillars is a great vantage point.
