Tourist Attractions in the Region

 

Karpacz is an ideal starting point for visiting tourist attractions in the surrounding areas. The town lies almost at the heart of the region that is why nearly the same distances separate it from attractions located  in western and eastern part of the Giant Mountains. It is not far to Jelenia Góra and Jelenia Góra Valley (Kotlina Jeleniogórska) where a picturesque route called the Valley of Palaces and Gardens goes.  There are so many attractions and everyone can find something for themselves. Some of visitors will probably come back, because one trip is not enough! 

Ściegny (3 km)

Western City
Wild West at the foot of Śnieżka mountain- dive into the world of sheriffs, gunslingers and  gold prospectors. You may shoot an Indian bow, throw a knife at the target or compete in climbing to the Pile of Torment (Pal Męczarni), which stands proudly in the middle of the city. You may watch gunslingers' duels and a bank robbery twice a day.

The Underground Tourist Routes „Kowary Adits”(Sztolnie Kowary)
A mysterious and magical  path 1200 m long which includes pavements, chambers and caves inside the Sulica mountain. An underground exhibition of tools connected with exploration of precious stones, iron ore and uranium.

Museum of Sentiments (Muzeum Sentymentów)
Museum of Sentiments is a place as untypical as its name indicates. It gathers items not only from the previous era but also memories and sentiments attached to it. In this museum you may go back in time and reminisce things which you had seen in your grandma’s kitchen, parent’s living room or even in your childhood bedroom. The Museum’s localisation is also untypical – former carpet factory which used to be famous not only in Poland but also outside the country.

Siruwia - Japanese Garden
Siruwia is a place one of a kind. This wonderful Japanese garden was arranged according to Japanese style of creating gardens and the feng shui philosophy. In there you are given the opportunity to admire the beauty of the Karkonosze nature captured in characteristic for Japan compositions, streams and waterfalls. On the premises of the garden there is a museum dedicated to Japanese culture, history and permanent exhibition “Samuraj rycerz dawnej Japonii” (Samurai knight of old Japan). Combination of modernity and tradition makes the tour a whole new adventure which ensure many new experiences and attractions. The youngest explorers and adventurers can also find something for themselves. Ten meters long slides will please even the pickiest children while their parents will have a minute to drink real green Japanese tea.

Jelenia Góra (18 km)

Chojnik Castle
Ruins of the medieval castle are situated on the top of the rocky hill. It was built as part of the system of fortifications securing the borders of  the Duchy of Piasts (księstwo Piastów). The castle has never been conquered, unfortunately in  1675 it burnt down after being struck by lightning.  It is worthwhile to listen to the legend about Kunegunda and climb the castle tower to admire the vast panorama of the Giant Mountains.

Museum of the Giant Mountains (Muzeum Karkonoskie)
The museum contains a rich collection connected with the culture and history of the Giant Mountains and Lowers Silesia.  A collection of art glass is the most precious element of the exhibition. Permanent exhibitions are accompanied by touch screens, film and multimedia games. You can find also a corner for children and a comic referring to the history of Jelenia Góra.

Julia Glassware
A place where history entwines with a beauty of glass masterpieces and a manual process of production.  During a guided tour you will experience a unique performance of manufacturing of crystal. The tourist path leads through many departments, including places where experienced craftsmen blow onto and shape the heat mass of glass literally conjuring crystal products in front of tourists. Moving forward you will be able to see a lot of intriguing production areas, starting from grinding through applying gorgeous decoration up to the quality control and  elaborate packaging.

Forest Glassworks (Leśna Huta)
It is a place where visitors may observe the production of goods made of tinted glass and how different forms are melted starting from small ornaments up to vases and dishes.  Foundry workers use old tools and moulds in the production process.

The Walloons' Hut JUNA
The seat of Walloons – medieval prospectors who searched for gold and precious stones. During the meetings held in its dark chambers, you may listen to the stories of the Walloons, old legends and tales connected with the Giant Mountains. The Valley of Palaces and Gardens

A complex of 30 magnificent residences. On the area of only 102 km2 you can sightsee Gothic castles and defensive towers, Renaissance manors, Baroque palaces and  19th century neo-Gothic, neo-Renaissance and Classical residences erected by the most renowned achitects of their times.
