MORGENSTERN'S HOUSE

The house of the mous famous landscape painter of the Giant Mountains.

Professor Carl Ernst Morgenstern (1847-1928) descended form a famous Munich family of artists. Since the end of 1880s, the professor with his students visited the Giant Mountains: the Wolf's Clearing (Wilcza Poręba),, Podgórzyn, Przesieka, Karpacz, Szklarska Poręba, and since 1890 he was also setting out in higher parts of the mountains. In his atelier on the Wolf's Clearing he paintes large paintings based on the studies prepared outdoor. Expeditions into the Giant Mountains became the inspiration to create an endless number of drawings, etchings, watercolours and oil pictures.

Development of printing technique provided an opportunity to print works of the master of the Giant Mountains landscape on postcards that were fashionable and popular at that time.  More malicious competitors called him  "the King of Postcards".

Currently - a private house, not available for tourists.
