Region of the Giant Mountains

Region of the Giant Mountains

The Giant Mountains are the highest range of the Sudetes, spreading for 36 km from the Szklarska Pass (Przełęcz Szklarska) on the west and to Lubawska Gate (Brama Lubawska) on the east. Their highest peak is Śnieżka reaching 1603 m.a.s.l.  The mountains are characterized by very interesting and varied terrain, strewn with granite rocks and crossed by the valleys of rapid flowing mountain creeks. The great value of natural environment is proven by the fact that since 1959 the area has been protected in the form of Karkonosze National Park and since 1993 it is the Bilateral Biosphere Reserve UNESCO.

The area of the Giant Mountains extends further .... It includes cities and towns integrated with the northern slopes of mountains and Jelenia Góra, the city which occupies the vast Jelenia Góra Valley (Kotlina Jeleniogórska). These places hide numerous monuments and modern tourist attractions as well as always hospitable, active and creative residents! They will be more than happy to tell you about their region and will make their best endeavour to turn your stay into a memorable visit. And the thoughts about coming back to the land of the Mountain Ghost will be nagging you all year.
