THE ENTRANCE TO THE OLD ADIT

A reminder of old mining traditions of the Giant Mountains.

At the turn of 18th and 19th centuryat the foot of Śnieżka mining developed rapidly. The large-scale mining works were conducted in Płóczki, Karpacz, Owl's Valley (Sowia Dolina) and Łomniczki Cirque, and several mines were opened on the territory of the present city.

Mining activities were carried out in three places on Karpatka and in two places along the Wild Creek (Dziki Potok) on the southern slope of Strzelec Mountain. Today, most of the traces have been completely erased by time and people. Walking along the Wild Creek (Dziki Potok) boundary crosses carved in stone and indicating location of mining parcels can be found. It is also possible to stroll through a real mining road built centuries ago. A trained eye will also notice an entrance to a former silver mine.

The Old Adit (Stara sztolnia)  near Kolejowa and Górna Street, a private property - no tourists allowed.
