THE LAST LABORANT'S HOUSE

18th century, especially the years between 1730 and 1780 were the time of the most intensive development of herbalism at the foot of Śnieżka. Laborants formed a guild. 27 masters of herbalisms were registered with the guild and 18 of them were leaving in Karpacz. They were able to prepare almost 200 types of medications used to treat various diseases and injuries. Karpacz became  an undisputed capital of herbalism in the Giant Mountains. The authorities of the Prussian Kingdom started applying restrictions on the laborants' activity. The Act of 1843 prohibited to enroll new professionals of herbalism. Ernst August Zölfel, the last laborant from the Giant Mountains died in Karpacz in 1884.
