THE PHARMACY „UNDER THE GOLDEN SCALES”

The history of this pharmacy starts in 1913. At that time it was called  "Prinzess-Charlotte-Apotheke" Krummhuebel and it was considered as a very modern place as it was equipped with central heating, gas and electrical installation, and the water supply system. The building has retained its system of gas lighting, which was something special in these times. In the spacious room there are  pharmacy furniture made of brass wood and glazed with crystal designed on request.  After the Second World War the pharmacy was called "Under the White Eagle" ("Pod Białym Orłem") and it was rented by Karol Czerny, with master degree in pharmacy. He run the place together with his wife Maria, also a  pharmacist.

At the beginning of the 50s of the previous century, all pharmacies were nationalised. In 1990 the building was repurchased by Grażyna and Wojciech Piotrowski who were in charge of the pharmacy till 1982. That was the time when it received the name "Undet the Golden Scale".

Tourists visiting the building admire its vintage interior: original parietal furniture with marble counters entered into the register of antiques, in the room where clients are served, there is a display of pharmaceutical glass vessels and tools, in the hall there is an old sideboard that was renovated and decorated with pharmacy motiffs painted on glass. Outside the building the visitors can see shutters with painted trees and Latin names.
