TRAGARIA LEKTYK (LITTER)

The history of carrying tourists in litters at the foot of Śnieżka started over 300 years ago. On 31 August 1679 the Count Krzysztof Leopold Schaffgotsch accompanied by a retinue of 20 poeple consisting of foresters, a master of the pantry, a valet, a cook, 2 hayduks and subjects who were transporting His Excellency the Graf" to the top of the highest mountain in the Sudetes.

As tourism developed a demand for carrying services increased. In Karpacz at the end of 19th century there were several places where tired tourists could rent porters who transported them to the top of Śnieżka. One of such stations was located in the current Chrobry Guest House (DW Chrobry).

The last litter of the porters from the Giant mountains was found in a house, which does not exist todays at Strażacka Street in 1980s. After many probelms it finally enriched the collection of the Museum of Sport and Tourism in Karpacz where vistors can admire it.
